Jianhua Bai (Ph. D., University of Pittsburgh) is Professor of Chinese and Chair of the Modern Languages and Literatures at Kenyon College. He also serves as Director of the Chinese School of Middlebury College. He has taught Chinese at all levels and also introduction to linguistics and Chinese language pedagogy courses. He has also served as Kenyon's KILM director, training, supervising and evaluating teaching assistants of seven world languages. His research interests include linguistics, foreign language education, proficiency-based material development, schema theory and reading instruction, integration of multimedia and distance-learning technology into the Chinese language curriculum and action research. He is currently chairing the AP Chinese Language and Culture Exam Development Committee for ETS and the College Board. He is a lifetime member of the Chinese Language Teachers Association (CLTA), has served on the Executive Board of CLTA for 2 terms (1995-1998, 2001-2004) and was President of the CLTA (2003-04). He is also an active member of AAS (Association of Asian Studies), AAUSC (American Association of University Supervisors and Coordinators and Directors of Language Programs), ACTFL, OFLA (Ohio Foreign Language Association), and the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages.
